For those of you who don't know, each of the 10 council leaders in Greater Manchester is given a portfolio to oversee as part our cabinet role within Greater Manchester Combined Authority - and following the recent council elections I have been given a new area of responsibility as that of Green City-Region Lead.

It is that time of year when we reflect on the previous 12 months. Personally, the highlight of 2018 was becoming Leader of the Council. I was born and raised in the borough so it was with great pride that I accepted the role. However, I am also well aware of the responsibilities that come with the job and the high expectations of residents and partners.

I was pleased with the turnout for our recent engagement event around how best we can improve Stretford. Around 100 people gathered at St Ann's Social Club to have their say on the future of the area and there were plenty of ideas on how we can make it a better place to live.

I'm pleased to say that earlier this week the Council Executive passed the Affordable Housing Fund, designed to stimulate the development of more homes and marking an important step in tackling the current crisis in this area.
