Adoption Picnics

Adoption Counts have now run three Adoption Picnics (also known as activity days) for the children across the regions who have to wait longer for their adoptive families. The Picnics allow adopters who are approved or towards the end of their assessment to come and meet our children in a fun and relaxed environment similar to a children’s party.

The children attend with their foster carer and social worker with lots of time to play with prospective adopters, engage in play on the soft play equipment or bouncy castle and a range of craft activities. We then have a picnic tea together before we finish with a magic show followed by a small gift and cake to take home.

The Picnics have been very successful with matches for 10 children from the first two picnics including a sibling group of three brothers and a brother and sister aged 4 and 7. The most recent picnic saw 13 prospective adopters make 24 expressions of interest in 13 of our children.

Feedback has been hugely positive with adopters commenting about how lovely it is to see our children being children, not backgrounds and difficult experiences – just having lots of fun.
