Special Guardianship Order Support Team

A Special Guardianship Order (SGO) enables children to get on with family life outside the care system. The Trafford Family Placement Team now has a designated SGO Support team in place to support all SGO carers in the borough. Special guardian’s, birth parents and/or the child are able to contact the SGO support team for information and advice at any time for as long as the order is active. The level of support and advice available to them will be decided through an individual assessment carried out by the SGO support team. If the team believe them to need support, they will be able to assist with getting them the help they need. Support may also be available from a fund that we can help access.

SGO carers are also entitled to access all of our foster carer training opportunities, and can be signposted to this training if they ask for it.

Quarterly SGO support groups are available to Special Guardian Carers. SGO carers within the borough are welcome to attend to share their experiences and offer support. The upcoming support group dates are listed below.

Thursday 12 September 2019 - 10am – 11am

Thursday 5 December 2019 - 2pm – 3pm

All the Support groups are held at Trafford Town Hall and attended by social workers on the SGO support Team who would be happy to speak in regards to any support needs that people may have.
