FAQs – Green Bin Collections

Why has my green bin not been emptied?

The garden waste collection service could not empty your bin due to lower crew numbers caused by a national shortage of HGV drivers and issues relating to COVID-19; including sickness and self-isolation.

Please check the bins disruptions page for further updates about your food and garden waste collection. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we work to manage and resolve this situation.

Can I report my missed green bin?

Please check the bins disruptions page  to see if your street is listed. If it is listed, you do not need to report your bin as we are already aware of the situation.

If your street is not listed, please report it to us within two working days.

What do I do with my green bin?

Please check the bins disruptions page for further updates about your food and garden waste collection. We will return to empty your green bin on the date provided.

If we are returning the next day, please leave it out.

If we are returning the following week, please bring it back in and present it on your next scheduled collection. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we take steps to manage and resolve the situation.

My green bin is full, where can I put my new food and garden waste while I wait?

You could take your garden waste to a Household Waste Recycling Centre for free.

You might also want to think about composting your garden waste at home, find out more information on home composting. If you are struggling for space to dispose of your food waste, put it in your grey bin.

Will my green bin definitely be emptied?

The uncertainty of staffing levels makes it difficult to guarantee how many bins we can empty.

To the best of our ability, we will prioritise the areas that we know we could not empty, to minimise any disruption and inconvenience. The situation is reviewed daily, and any updates will be posted on the bins disruptions page. Please check the date provided of when we plan to return.

Will I be able to put out extra garden waste with my next collection?

No, unfortunately there won’t be capacity for the crews to collect extra garden waste left to the side of the bin. Please make sure the lid is fully closed and no extra waste has been left to the side or on top of the bin.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we work to manage and resolve this situation.
