Tree works and inspections

We are responsible for the management, inspection and maintenance of council owned trees located throughout the borough in accordance with best practice and legislation.

As part of our commitment to improving the management of our trees, we have a comprehensive tree database containing information about the boroughs tree stock, including when they have been inspected, maintained and will be due to be maintained in future.

Our tree policy

Our tree management policy has been updated to ensure we are following best practice, and to help us meet our climate and environmental ambitions.

Replacing a fallen, felled or diseased tree

We are committed to replacing trees on a 2 for 1 basis to retain Trafford’s green image.

Tree work in the pruning and maintenance programme

Tree work is carried out as part of the pruning and maintenance programme, which includes:

  • Crown thinning
  • Lifting
  • Reduction of branches away from properties
  • Removal of dead, diseased and damaged wood

Tree height

Although there is no specific height that a tree is allowed to grow to, our pruning and maintenance programme ensures that all of the trees are pruned to meet the requirement for highway trees.

Arboricultural work

Although we are responsible for the above, we do not carry out any private work. If you are looking for someone to carry out private work, you can contact one of the contractors on the select list of Arboricultural Contractors. These contractors regularly carry out work within the local area. Whist these contractors carry out work on our trees, we can not be held responsible their actions.
