We’re on a mission, to help reduce the financial burden of clothing for families in need, by reusing and gifting clothing and children’s items donated by our local community, whilst creating a positive change in behaviour towards a more circular economy

Who are we?

We are a dedicated bunch of local people who strongly believe that all children should have the basics they need to thrive.

Children outgrow their clothes so quickly, and there is more than enough clothes to go around! We harness the support of the local community to collect items no longer required. We sort them to ensure they are good quality, and gift them on to those who need them the most, from one family to another.

We work with referral partners who are professionals already supporting families in financial crisis, such as health visitors, foodbanks, domestic violence refuge, who refer families to us for support during a difficult time for them.

Most people want to help support local children, and we provide that link.

Why are we needed?

A third of children in Greater Manchester are living in poverty, over 11,000 of these children live in Trafford. With the huge increase in the cost of living, this is only going to get worse.

We feel passionately that families shouldn’t have to choose between heating their home, eating food, or clothing their children, and at Little Green Sock Project we can help directly with one of these basic needs.

We also strongly believe in protecting our environment, to protect our children’s future. With the very nature of this project, we are promoting sustainability and creating positive culture shift towards reuse and recycling perfectly good clothes and children’s items.

Volunteer For Us:

There are so many ways you can support our cause!

At the moment we are looking for volunteers who can:

  • Help wash, dry, iron and sort incoming donations in their own home
  • Come into the Little Green Sock Project HQ on Flixton road to help with sorting/storing and making up bundles and baby gift boxes
  • Help at pop up events around the North and West Trafford areas
  • Pick up/drop off donations to the Little Green Sock base in Urmston, deliveries to the Trafford Hubs.
  • DIY enthusiasts to help with putting up shelving/painting
  • Knitters to knit our ’Little Green Sock’ (pattern provided)
  • Sewing enthusiasts to mend higher value items

As we grow we will be introducing more & more volunteer roles so please keep returning as we grow to see what opportunities are available
