Woodheys Park

Woodheys Park was opened in the early 1970s. The site was formally used as farmland and is still known as ‘Pinky Park’ because pigs from a field across the brook frequently strayed into the park. The features and events within the park have attracted people from all ages from miles around. It's the perfect place to unwind, relax and enjoy the wonderful environment, wildlife and landscape. It's a fantastic place to spend time with family and friends, enjoy the changing of the seasons, walk the dog, have a kick about on the football pitch, play on the swings and slide or bring a picnic. During the summer months, the 18-hole Pitch and Putt course is open daily and offers a fun round of golf for all ages from the beginner as well as the more confident player. It's excellent for honing your short game and for a small fee, clubs and golf balls can be hired from the Pavilion building. The park is for everyone and it's amazing what you'll see if you look closely enough, from numerous species of fungi, a multitude of different types of birds, several varieties of butterflies and hoverflies to bats at dusk and these are just a few examples of many. Adjacent to the children's play area is an orchard of 12 trees that produce apples in abundance and one Black Mulberry bush together with picnic tables to sit at. Beyond this area, is Woodheys Wood, its tranquillity only broken by birdsong. There is a Pavilion which is used for community activities – including ‘Walking for Health’ every Wednesday and NCS students during the summer. It’s also used as a base for Stockdales who help in the park on a regular basis. There is an external defibrillator at the Pavilion which is suitable for use on children and adults. Via the entrance on Kenmore Road is an onsite car park with 20 spaces and one disabled bay.
