Trafford Council Team Leader highly commended

An inspirational team leader was highly commended in a prestigious awards ceremony for social workers.

Nick Edwards, who has worked for Trafford Council for nine years, was nominated in the Team Leader of the Year category for the Social Worker of the Year Awards 2018 in London.

Nick, who is Service Manager at Trafford Council, did not win but was delighted to be recognised for his efforts.

He said:

It’s been challenging but very rewarding. The last 18 months have been intense in the amount of change that’s had to be delivered. This is not just for me but also my team of dedicated social workers and the senior staff who have provided the opportunity to enable me to do this.

Nick was nominated for all his work transforming the way his team address issues. This includes being more proactive in dealing with people, enabling the team to meet their care needs.

Cllr Joanne Harding, Trafford Council Executive Member for Adult Social Care, said:

Nick is an amazing member of our team and thoroughly deserves to be recognised. We are immensely proud of the transformational work he has done at the council. He is a real inspiration.

The prestigious awards ceremony is the leading celebration of its kind in the social care sector, and recognises the achievements and successes of the profession’s most innovative and dedicated social workers.

Fiona Brown, Executive Director People Services at award sponsor Sunderland City Council, said:

This award recognises an outstanding team leader in adult services. All the finalists have outstanding leadership skills and the ability to inspire and support their team to deliver exceptional support to vulnerable adults.
