Advice about staying safe in Altrincham and Hale

Trafford Council and Greater Manchester Police advise about staying safe following incidents in Altrincham and Hale

Young people are encouraged to be extra vigilant, avoid potentially unsafe situations and to report anything they witness to the police or the Council following a series of robberies and anti-social behaviour over the last few weeks.

The Council’s Community Safety Team, Greater Manchester Police, and Transport for Greater Manchester are working in partnership to take action against the individuals who have committed these offences.

The joint initiatives being run over the coming weeks include visits to schools to talk about issues connected to knife crime and an increased police presence on trams.

We know that the recent incidents in Trafford will be worrying for people in the area, but we are working together to tackle the situation.

We’d also ask for people to do what they can to keep themselves safe. Avoid having expensive phones or technology on display, take a safe route home and always contact a parent or police if you feel threatened.

Leader of the Council, Sean Anstee said ‘I share the concern of many residents in relation to a spate of incidents that have occurred in the south of the borough recently.

The Council is taking decisive action in partnership with Greater Manchester Police and other agencies to provide assurance to our communities, including a greater visible police presence and visits to schools.  It is a long held priority of the Council to ensure all residents and visitors to the borough feel safe and we remain the safest place to live in Greater Manchester.  However, incidents like those we have seen in recent weeks show we can never be complacent and I want to assure our communities that these matters are receiving our priority attention.

Cllr Laura Evans, Executive Member for Communities & Partnerships said ‘I have been daily contact with Council officers and Greater Manchester Police since these incidents have occurred to catch those responsible.  It’s really important that any information known is shared with GMP to assist them with their enquiries.’

If you do experience or witness anything, please report it to the police or the Council either by calling 101 or sharing information which may assist the investigations by emailing safer.communities@trafford.gov.uk
