International Women's Day

Today (March 8) you will notice parts of Trafford turn purple to mark International Women's Day (IWD).

The Council's website and social media channels will all adopt the colour to celebrate the annual worldwide day that focuses on women's achievements while calling for gender equality.

IWD has been observed since the early 1900s and is recognised each year on March 8. It is not linked to any one group, but brings together women's organisations, businesses, governments and charities.

This year's day holds extra significance as it commemorates the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

#PressforProgress, the 2018 campaign, calls for people to work towards gender equality by motivating friends, colleagues and communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.
