Trafford celebrates carers during National Carers Week

The hugely important, often unseen, work carried out by people who dedicate much of their time caring for others will be celebrated during Carers Week.

In Trafford a series of events are being held, led by Trafford Carers Centre, to recognise the fantastic contribution carers make, often helping close friends or relatives.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

The theme for 2018 Carers Week is ‘Healthy and Connected’, and the Council is looking at all the ways we can support carers to achieve both these things; building communities which support carers to continue looking after their loved ones, while recognising that they are individuals with health and wellbeing needs of their own.

The week of events is open to all Trafford carers and those they care for. It includes:

Monday 11 June - Walk for Health at Sale Sports Club, 11am. Gentle walk from Sale Sports Club to Worthington Park followed by lunch. Call 0161 284 2400 (option1) to join in.

Tuesday 12 June and Friday 15 June – Carers Information and Advice Stall, 9.30am-3.30pm, Sale Sainsbury’s.

Saturday 16 June – Re:Love&Care Fun Day at Trafford Carers Centre shop in Stretford Mall, 9.30am-4.30pm. Fun activities, find out about volunteering and meet the team.

Joanne Harding, Exec Member for Adult Social Care, said: “People often don’t understand the massive responsibility that comes with being a carer, it’s an extremely difficult job that has an impact on the carer’s health, finances, career opportunities and even their general wellbeing.

“We hope these events will offer support and let carers know that there is help out there for them if they feel they are struggling in any way.”
