New memorial tree installed at Altrincham Crematorium

A NEW memorial tree - the first of its kind in the country - has been installed at Altrincham Crematorium.

The 5ft tree, which takes the form of a weeping willow, has granite leaves which can be inscribed with the name and birth dates of a loved one.

The beautiful structure, designed by Hull-based Columbaria,  has been installed in the Crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance for mourners to visit.

As part of the recent changes, there is also the opportunity to have cremated remains buried in the surrounding area with wild flower seeds to help create a colourful area where families can sit and remember.

Councillor Stephen Adshead, Executive Member for Environment, Air Quality and Climate Change, said the tree was specifically designed with families of loved ones in mind.

He said: “This tree is the first of its kind in the country so it is very special to everyone at the Crematorium.

“It gives people a chance to have a permanent memorial to their loved one. People can also have cremated remains of their loved ones buried next to the tree. It is a lovely setting to sit, relax and reflect.”
