Award-winning runner Jane is an inspiration!

MOTHER-of-two Jane Dennison is inspiring hundreds of couch potatoes into getting fit – and she’s won two major awards for her efforts!

The 37-year-old, who runs the MileShyClub in Trafford, picked up the Coach of the Year award at Greater Manchester’s Sporting Awards last week, attended by Cllr Kevin Procter, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Communities and Housing.

She was also named Coach of the Year and won the Club of the Year Award at the Trafford Sporting Awards.

The MileShyClub, a not-for-profit organisation, provides coaching to runners aged between 17 and 65 every week. The club has proved to be so successful it has expanded from Sale into several other areas across the country.

Jane, who lives in Sale, has also raised thousands of pounds for charity and is an inspiration for those looking to get fit and run for the first time.

She said:

“I am very proud of these awards. For me, it is about doing something for the greater good. I used to be a 22-a-day smoker. I firstly got into swimming, then running and it has taken off from there.

“The club means everything to me. It is so satisfying to see people run their first mile and then to go on from there. We have 300 members in Sale alone now. I have been running for ten years now. It’s a very powerful theme in my life and helps me so much with my mental health and fitness levels. It’s brilliant.”

Running and fitness are big in Jane’s family – her husband is a coach at Sale Harriers as well as her eldest daughter. She added:

To me, it is about helping other people. I used to work at a law firm in a corporate role and I just wanted to get out of the office and do something worthwhile. I love running – it is a labour of love.

Judith Lloyd, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:

“Congratulations to Jane on her awards – she thoroughly deserves all the credit she gets. She is an inspiration to hundreds of people who are new to running and those looking to run further. Well done to Jane.”
