National award won by dedicated Council social care team

An innovative Council team are celebrating after scooping a prestigious award.

Trafford Council’s Adult Social Care won the gold award in the Innovation in Health and Social Care category. They won the top prize for their innovate Let’s Talk initiative, at the national Public Sector Transformation Awards 2019 in London on Wednesday.

Let’s Talk is the Council’s new approach which places the person at the heart of decisions over their care. The innovative way of working frees up Adult Social Care workers to spend more time with people. It also focuses on what people are able to do and how they can be supported in continuing to live the lives they want to lead.

The awards organisers praised the Let’s Talk initiative for the great impact it has had on people who use health and social care.

Let’s Talk has also helped the Council deliver extra capacity to its Adult Social Care budget, enabling it to meet extra demand for social care services. This is coupled with an extra £5.7m for adult and children’s services in this year’s budget that enable the Council to ensure adults who need help receive the best support possible.

The Council was represented at the awards by Cllr Jo Harding, (Executive Member for Adult Social Care), Joy Preston (Strategic Lead for Adult Social Care), Jennifer McErlain (Project Lead, Let’s Talk) and Natasha Brown, (Senior Social Worker in the North Area team).

Cllr Harding, who was delighted to pick up the award, said:

This award is testament to the hard work our dedicated staff do to support the people of Trafford.

Every member of the Let’s Talk team deserves to be congratulated for the care and passion they put into their work, and for the amazing results we are seeing of people being able to live the lives they want to lead.

They are deserved winners and I am absolutely thrilled to be able to share this award with them.”
