Exciting events put on for national Carers Week

A series of events for carers in Trafford has been organised to coincide with national Carers Week.

A day at the races, benefits clinics and pamper treatments are just some of the exciting events, which have been co-ordinated by Trafford Carers Centre.

A health walk kicks off the carers week, which is from 10-16 June. The walk, on Monday, begins at 10.30am from Sale Sports Club and is followed by a buffet. This is followed on Tuesday with a benefits clinic, enabling carers to find what help and support is available to them. This takes place at at the Carers Information Point in Stretford Mall, from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Carers, family and friends are invited to Haydock Park for a day at the races on Wednesday, while there is a Be Our Guest event on Thursday at Stretford Public Hall from 10am to 2.30pm. The free event involves live music, workshops, pampering treatment and more. Also at the day is a Power of Attorney Workshop, where carers can find out about the benefits of having a power of attorney, as well as practical advice.

Trafford Carers Centre is also looking at hiring a minibus for the Thursday to pick up carers in Partington to make it more accessible to them.

Councillor Jane Slater, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Health, Wellbeing and Equalities, said:

Being a carer can be so demanding. It can be a role that is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It’s great therefore that we recognise their amazing dedication by putting these events on. It’s a great chance for our carers to relax and unwind, to find out support available to them or to meet and socialise with other carers.”
