Trafford Council is continuing its regeneration and housing growth plans in Sale by inviting bids from developers to build on the site of the former Magistrates Court.
Work to demolish the buildings on Ashton Lane have been completed and the site of just over a hectare has been cleared in preparation for development.
The site, situated on a key arterial route within the borough, was acquired from Homes England with a view to redevelopment and specifically the building of new residential property close to the town centre.
The intention now is to build new homes with a mix of housing types including a 25 per cent affordable housing element.
Cllr James Wright, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Regeneration, said:
The magistrates’ court has been closed for two years and it was always the intention to bring forward the site of this former public building forward with a positive new use generating new affordable homes.
Along with the delivery of new homes, the project will contribute to the regeneration of Sale town centre ensuring that the type of development delivered will provide the greatest benefit for Sale and its residents.
Strong interest has been received from a number of house builders and developers already and the Council looks forward to receiving a number of bids shortly. Following the bids process there will be full public consultation on the proposed development scheme.”
Any development of the site will be subject to planning permission being granted by Trafford Council.
