Trafford Council is on the lookout for your community's sporting stars

Do you know any sporting heroes in your community? We are on the lookout for individuals who have selflessly sacrificed their time for others and demonstrated their commitment to sport and physical activity.

The launch of the Trafford Sports Awards 2019, by the Trafford Sport and Physical Activity Partnership, gives you the perfect opportunity to nominate them and see their efforts officially recognised.

Whether an individual, volunteer, community group, club, school or coach, a talented athlete who has achieved great things, or someone who, through sport and physical activity has changed their lifestyle for the better, we need to know.

An independent panel of judges, including representatives from the Partnership, will face the task of selecting the winners in each of the eight categories - Changing lifestyle recognition, Community initiative, Unsung hero, School commitment to PE and school sport, Volunteer of the year, Young sports achiever of the year, Workforce advocate of the year and Community Club / Group of the year.

Andy Worthington, Chairman of the Trafford Sport and Physical Activity Partnership, said:

The Trafford Sports Awards are all about finding local heroes who have made an outstanding contribution to their community.

This year’s event promises to be a marvellous celebration of sport and physical activity in Trafford, with our sporting heroes the glittering stars of the show.  We have so many reasons to be proud of our sporting community here in Trafford  and we are all looking forward to recognising their achievements on the night of the awards.

Trafford’s winners will go on to represent the borough at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards later this year. There they will rub shoulders with many famous sporting personalities and national athletes. These true sporting heroes will be our ambassadors, their presence reinforcing all that is great about sport and physical activity in Trafford.”

Cllr Jane Baugh, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said:

Every community in Trafford has its very own sporting superstars and we are looking for yours. Please nominate the local sporting heroes that you admire, they may be in with a chance of winning. Let’s get together to celebrate these fantastic unsung heroes who do so much for the people living in their areas.”

Nomination forms are now available online at www.traffordpartnership.org for you to nominate an individual, club or school you feel deserves your nomination. Nominations should cover achievements from September 2018 to August 2019.

Every nominator and nominee will receive a complimentary ticket to the awards evening at Hotel Football on the evening of Friday 4th October. Nominations close on 31st August.
