Trafford mum Louise Wheeler is taking part in a novel fundraising idea from Maggie’s Manchester to help to encourage donations after the cancer support charity’s flagship fashion show was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Under normal circumstances Maggie’s models – 50 men and women living with cancer - would currently be preparing to strut their stuff on the catwalk for the ‘Maggie’s on the Runway’ fundraiser. But with the event postponed due to the current lockdown, they have instead launched ‘Bin Here, Bin There... In fact Bin Nowhere’ – a campaign that encourages people to dress up in their finest for their own bin walk - and record the moment on a dedicated Facebook fundraising page.

Sale resident Louise Wheeler says:

Maggie’s offered me a peaceful, relaxing place to go when I was attending frequent appointments at The Christie during my cancer treatment. I would join in yoga classes, talk to the counsellors or simply sit and unwind a little. I could see what a lifeline the centre was to so many people and made me realise I was far from alone.

Cancer patients and their families need support as urgently now as ever. Taking part in your own bin walk is a chance to dress up, be creative and have some fun while raising crucial funds for Maggie’s. The more friends and families we can get on board, liking the photos and making a donation, the more we can help Maggie’s continue their vital work.”

Cllr Jane Slater, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Health, Wellbeing and Equalities, said:

It’s a credit to the team at Maggie’s that having lost their major fundraising event of the year, they have come up with such an imaginative idea that anyone can take part in, even while isolating at home.

Our bins have never looked so glamorous and we hope this campaign will help to raise money for Maggie’s Manchester to continue to support residents in Trafford and across the region living with cancer.”

More information on how to take part in ‘Bin Here, Bin There... In fact Bin Nowhere’ can be found on Facebook and donations to Maggie’s Manchester can be made via a dedicated Just Giving Page.
