A new fundraising campaign has been launched to help the most vulnerable and isolated Trafford residents, as the effects of the coronavirus pandemic continue to be felt throughout the borough.
Trafford Crisis Fund aims to raise £250,000 to help people access basic provisions such as food and medication, as well as making sure that those who are lonely and at risk have someone to talk to. Donations can be made via the JustGiving page.
The fund is being administrated by Trafford Housing Trust on behalf of the people of the borough, and is supported by the Trafford Partnership, which includes Trafford Council and a group of charities, residents, businesses, faith groups and other local organisations committed to supporting local residents. All funds will go to the charities and community groups who are on the frontline helping people in need in the borough.
Larry Gold, Chief Executive of Trafford Housing Trust, said:
Since this crisis began we have seen incredible generosity and kindness from the residents of Trafford and beyond, and we can’t thank people enough for the support they have given to neighbours, family and friends.
However, the social consequences of this crisis will be felt by some residents for many months to come, and it is crucial that plans and funds are in place to ensure that those in need continue to be supported. We appreciate that times are difficult for many of us, so any donations will be hugely appreciated.”
Cllr Andrew Western, Leader of Trafford Council, said:
These are very worrying times for all of our vulnerable and isolated residents and Trafford Council and our partners are doing everything possible to protect them. This fundraising campaign is a fantastic idea and will help those most in need in our borough. I am amazed by the generosity of the Trafford public and have no doubt they will support this very worthwhile cause.”
The campaign is receiving support from a number of high-profile businesses and individuals in Trafford, including Alison Warwood, Executive Director at Sale Sharks Community Trust. She said:
