Trafford Council staff are carrying out spot checks at some of the borough’s businesses to ensure coronavirus rules are being followed.
Environmental Health and Trading Standards Officers are visiting shops and restaurants unannounced to make sure strict Tier 3 rules are not being broken.
The officers, who were in Hale this week, are checking:
- Social distancing controls – including layout of tables, queuing systems, one way systems and limiting numbers
- Mask wearing by customers and staff
- Track and trace procedures are being followed
- Restaurants are only serving alcohol with food and only allowing single households to sit at tables
- Controls for staff to prevent spread at work- keeping their distance, mask use, screens, carrying out a risk assessment to put controls in place
The inspectors will be giving guidance to businesses not following rules and will take formal enforcement action if improvements are not made.
Cllr Mike Freeman, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Public Safety, Governance and Reform, said:
“It is in everyone’s interests to ensure that we get rid of the coronavirus as quickly as possible. The best way to do this is to ensure that everyone is following the rules so that we can prevent the virus from spreading around the borough.
All shops, bars, and restaurants need to follow the rules around mask wearing, social distancing, and track and trace. If we find they are not following the rules, we will give warnings and then take action if the situation does not improve. We are all in this together and we need to work together to see the virus off.”
