Free online live daily exercise classes for the people of Trafford

Trafford Leisure pledges to continue its popular free, online exercise classes, even when its centres reopen, to give everyone the opportunity to keep moving.

The live streamed classes have been available daily on Trafford Leisure’s Facebook page since the first lockdown in March, and these will continue through the second lockdown and for the foreseeable future.

With a different class each day, there is something for everyone, and all abilities are catered for. The live classes are recorded and remain on Trafford Leisure’s Facebook page, so they can be revisited again and again. Classes include HIIT, Stretch and Tone, Core Blast and Upper and Lower body Workouts.

The live steamed classes are hosted by Trafford Leisure instructors, who are experts in fitness and wellbeing and are trained to motivate and encourage.

Emma Heaton, Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer at Trafford Leisure, has been presenting some of the streamed classes. She says:

“Exercise can help keep your immune system functioning properly and support both your physical and mental wellbeing; especially pertinent during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Being at home can be quite limiting in terms of space and lack of equipment. The good news is the best piece of kit is our own body - there’s so much you can do with it. Exercising at home can be simple, with options for most ages and abilities. All you need is an internet connection and a bottle of water to keep you hydrated.”

Emma, who usually teaches at Stretford Leisure continues:

" When I first started doing the streamed classes it felt a bit weird. Was anyone watching? Could the viewers hear and see me OK? But we’ve all got used to working out virtually together. I keep my classes fresh by changing the format and the routines. It’s surprising how many people came up to me at Stretford Leisure Centre when we reopened saying ‘you’re the online lady!’ It’s been great to be able to encourage and champion physical activity virtually.”

Jo Cherrett, COO, Trafford Leisure says:

“It’s really important, as we enter a long winter, to find opportunities in daily life to keep active, from dancing in the kitchen, going for a walk, a run or a bike ride. We’re committed to providing the Trafford community with opportunities to stay fit, and our live streamed classes are proving to be extremely popular.

Exercise is an excellent coping strategy; focusing the brain away from worry and acting as a distraction from everyday stresses. At this difficult time, being physically active and mindful is going to be a fantastic copying mechanism. As England’s Chief Medical Officer, Chris Witty said: ‘There is no situation, there is no age and no condition where exercise is not a good thing.”

Trafford Leisure has received amazing feedback from customers who have been using the free online streamed classes since March, including Mike, who said:

“All these classes are amazing. Each trainer has their own individual style of providing a great workout.”

And June who said:

“I have really enjoyed the classes throughout and lockdown and beyond. I like how I can catch up with any of the trainers at a convenient time for myself.”
