Trafford Council to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week

Next week (Feb 8 -14) is National Apprenticeship Week and the theme for this year is ‘build the future.’

Trafford Council has supported over 300 apprentices in a variety of roles since April 2017. Every day, next week, to mark the event, we will be hosting a series of activities and events for our apprentices and employees. These include a variety of learning, skills building and information sessions, the launch of our apprenticeship Hall of Fame video and attendance at a Public Sector GMCA celebration event.

Apprenticeships are an alternative to university or college because people can work while they study. They combine work, training, and study, and let you 'earn while you learn'.

Cllr Catherine Hynes, Deputy Leader of Trafford Council, said:

“Trafford Council wholeheartedly supports apprenticeships and we are delighted to have supported over 300 apprentices in the past few years.
Apprenticeships are an essential element of our talent development and are a great way to develop the skills and knowledge of our workforce. By bringing in new talent, as well as investing in existing staff, we are unlocking the potential of our current workforce, creating higher levels of skills and performance and in addition, building a pipeline for future roles.

It is vital that our apprentices are given opportunities to learn in the workplace and we have taken them on right across the board. We are proud to see them progress through their qualifications and I am really looking forward to National Apprenticeship Week. I would like to thank all our apprentices for all their hard work – they are a credit to the Council.”

Trafford Council is currently working with providers to deliver a wide range of apprenticeships including: adult social care, accountancy, business administration, chartered legal executive, children, young people and families, customer service, cyber security, data analyst, digital marketing and digital and technology solutions.

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority is hosting a special event on Friday February 12 from 11am -12 noon to celebrate apprentices and promote apprentice opportunities.
