These five talented young people have been taken on by the Council as part of the Government’s Kickstart Scheme which provides funding to create new six-month jobs for 16 to 24 year olds at risk of long term unemployment.
The five – Luke Taylor Brooks, who works in licensing, Nolan Barratt who is placed in the SEND team, Alex Heald also in SEND, Megan Ridgeway, in Registrars, and Jamie Leigh Wright, HR, – have begun their first week at Trafford Town Hall and are off to a flying start. They will be joined by four other Kickstarters in July who are currently being interviewed.
The £2bn Kickstart Scheme was designed to enable businesses to boost their productivity while providing employment for a generation of talented young people who might otherwise be at risk of long-term unemployment due to the challenges posed by Covid.
Luke, who works in Licensing, said:
“The Kickstart Scheme has been great for me as it’s given me the opportunity to work at Trafford Council. I have only been at the Council for a few days but I’m really enjoying the placement and everyone has been really kind and friendly. The experience I will gain will be of huge benefit to me in the future.”
Nolan, whose placement is within the Special Educations Needs team (SEND), said:
“I am really grateful to have been given this opportunity at Trafford Council. The work I have been doing has been really interesting and I am really enjoying my time here. It’s great to be in full time employment.”
Jamie is working in the Council’s HR department. She said:
“Working in HR has always been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’m really enjoying the placement and it’s given me more confidence for my future employment prospects.”
Cllr Mike Freeman, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Covid 19 Recovery and Reform, said:
“Covid 19 placed huge pressures on communities and businesses and the fallout from that will be felt for many years. The Kickstart Scheme allows organisations to take on talented young in a variety of roles and that is great for them and great for us as a Council.
“One of the Council’s main priorities is to give support to children and young people so we are delighted to be able to give this opportunity to this talented group. I wish them every success in their placements and future employment.”
