Howzat! Lanky the Giraffe – Lancashire Cricket Club’s official club mascot – has become the latest Trafford resident to get his Covid jab.

Star-struck staff at the Limelight Health and Wellbeing Hub in Stretford were completely bowled over when the famous mascot turned up for his first Pfizer vaccination.

Lanky had them crease-d up as he took time away from Emirates Old Trafford to take advantage of the fact that anyone aged 18 or over can now be vaccinated against Covid.

Now the lofty legend can return to the cricket ground safe in the knowledge that he has been vaccinated and that his chance of catching the virus and passing it on have been significantly lowered.

And Lanky will be back to the Limelight for his second vaccine in eight weeks’ time so he has maximum protection against Covid. So far, more than 200,000 Trafford residents have been vaccinated and, of those, 120,000 have received their second dose. Watch a video of Lanky's visit on our Youtube channel.

Cllr Jane Slater, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Health, Wellbeing and Equalities, said:

“Well done to Lanky for having his Covid jab, we are very proud of you.

As we move towards the end of Covid restrictions, we would urge all adults in Trafford to follow in Lanky’s footsteps by having their vaccination now.

Sadly we are now seeing an increase in Covid cases in Trafford. It is vital that people say yes to their vaccine for their own health and that of their friends and family. Vaccination will help us bring this pandemic to an end. Please also make sure you take your second dose as two vaccines offers maximum protection. ”

To book your Covid vaccination, please visit nhs.uk/covidvaccine or call 119. There are four sites within Trafford on the system so you can get vaccinated locally. If you can't see a local site when you go online, try again tomorrow as new slots are released regularly.
