Trafford Council's brilliant summer of sport ready to kick off

On your marks, get set, go….. Are you ready for a fantastic Summer of Sport across Trafford?

To make 2021 a summer to remember, Trafford Council and its partners will be organising free fun multisport activities at locations around the borough alongside a whole host of other amazing activities.

The Summer of Sport scheme, which has been running for two years in partnership with Trafford’s pro sports clubs, is being run again after funding was provided by the Department of Education. This year, the Council has been able to provide more sessions and can fund places on summer activities for children receiving free school meals.

Children will be able to enjoy the sports they love during the summer holidays totally free of charge. And that’s not all, each day the scheme will also provide a healthy school meal standard lunch to eligible youngsters to keep them full up as they run, skip and jump.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said:

“It’s been a tough year for our children, school closures have meant missing out on P.E lessons, the walk to school and playing out with friends – we are delighted to be shaking things up with our Summer of Sports.

“Don’t be stuck for things to do over the holidays – girls and boys are welcome to join our free professionally led activity sessions which include a lunch. Lots of fun guaranteed, sign up today.”

To take part, please go to www.trafforddirectory.co.uk and search ‘Summer of Sport’ to find the session which is local to you and follow the instructions to book. Some of the locations do have a capacity so places are not guaranteed.

So make sure you book in as soon as possible so you can have a summer of fun with the likes of Manchester United Foundation, Sale Sharks Community Trust, Lancashire Cricket Foundation, Altrincham FC in the Community, Swinton Lions, Salford Reds, Foundation 92 and TUF*C.

The NHS has also launched a campaign to get children more active this summer. The Summer shake up encourages children to get involved in as many activities as they can and has fun 10-minute shake-up games on offer. For more information, please go to www.nhs.uk/10-minute-shake-up/shake-ups
