Kickstarters kick off in style!

Trafford Council’s brightest new stars have kicked off their placements and are celebrating a cracking start!

The nine Kickstarters - Luke Taylor Brooks, Nolan Barratt, Alex Heald, Nick Ridgeway, Jamie Leigh Wright, Georgia Oakley, Morgan Mister, Dexter MacPhail and Nicole Henry - were taken on by the Council as part of the Government’s Kickstart Scheme.

The £2bn scheme was designed to enable businesses to boost their productivity while providing six-month placements for a generation of talented young people who might otherwise be at risk of long-term unemployment due to the challenges posed by Covid.

And the Kickstarters, who have been in their posts since June and July, have made a great start to their placements and have hugely impressed department heads with their talent, hard work and enthusiasm.

Jamie, who has been working in the Council’s HR department since June 28, said:

“I’m delighted to say that the placement has been going really well and I love what I am doing at the Council. I have been doing a bit of everything including social media, diary management and attending meetings. I have also attended several courses to improve my digital skills, team working and to learn about organisational values. Everyone has been really kind and helpful and I’m so excited to be here.”

Morgan, who has been working in the Council’s Health and Social Care Recovery and Reform Team since last month, said:

“I have really enjoyed my time at Trafford Council so far. The team I am working on is focusing on modernisation and it has been really interesting to see the work that is going on. My work is really interesting and challenging at the same time. I love it here!”

Trafford Council’s Executive have also been impressed by the Kickstarters. Cllr Mike Freeman, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Covid 19 Recovery and Reform, said:

“Trafford Council has made helping young people a major priority and that is why we were so keen to be involved in this scheme. We are very keen to help as many young people into work as possible and this scheme enables us to do just that.

“The Covid 19 pandemic hit young people hard as it placed huge pressures on businesses and communities. I am delighted that the Kickstarters have made such a fantastic start to their Council placements. I really enjoyed meeting some of them today and will be working closely with them throughout their Council journey.”
