Further funding announced for community groups

Trafford Council is once again inviting voluntary and community groups to apply for grants of up to £5,000 to support projects aimed at making communities safer.

Standing Together community safety grants are available for initiatives that build cohesion and confidence in local neighbourhoods, with a particular focus on:

  • Keeping people safe
  • Reducing harm and offending
  • Strengthening communities and places

With a total pot of £100,000, the grants are designed to help voluntary and community sector groups across the borough make a difference in their immediate areas. This spring and summer, a group of students from two local schools joined a project in Moor Nook Park in Sale funded by the last round of community safety grants.

Their activities included building bee hotels, creating a community stone trail, planting and caring for trees, sweeping footpaths, litter picking and improving the community orchard and flower beds. All the young people taking part reported that the experience had improved their wellbeing and made them feel more connected to their local community.

Full details of Standing Together grants and an application form can be found on the Council website. The deadline for submissions is 5 November 2021.

Cllr Graham Whitham, Trafford’s Executive Member for Communities and Partnerships said:

“Where there are safety issues in local neighbourhoods, it is often grassroots community and voluntary groups that are best placed to know where and why problems are arising, and have brilliant ideas about how to tackle them. These grants will give successful applicants the financial support to back their initiatives to the benefit of our residents.

If you have a proposal to help strengthen your community and would like to talk through your application, please do give the Community Safety team a call and they will be happy to advise.”
