Groups urged to apply for £5K digital funding

Community groups have a few more days left to apply for £5,000 worth of digital funding.

Trafford Council’s Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) Digital Grants scheme round 3 is welcoming applications up to 16th January 2022.

Community groups across Trafford can receive grants of up to £5,000 to improve residents’ digital skills and cyber resilience.

In the first 2 rounds over £42,000 was awarded to 16 local groups to deliver projects to Trafford residents.

Dynamic Heights used their funding to provide online training to improve people’s interview techniques and boost confidence. Mumba Kafula, of Dynamic Heights Training, said:

“Trafford Council's Digital Programme is a real benefit to local women at this time, with many being furloughed, made redundant or facing uncertainty. The support enables women to build back their confidence and improve their skills for the future.”

Theatre of Senses were able to provide their services online during Covid restrictions and provide additional support to upskill those with limited IT skills. A course member said: "I hadn't a clue how to turn the machine on, now I'm talking to my sister in Canada who I've not seen in over 30 years. I'm going to get the internet installed in the next few weeks.”

Cllr Graham Whitham, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Communities and Partnerships, said:

“The first 2 rounds of the VCFSE Digi grants have supported a number of fantastic initiatives in Trafford, impacting positively on hundreds of residents – in particular helping people to stay connected during the pandemic.”

In addition to the grant funding, VCFSE groups will also have the opportunity to receive some bespoke cyber resilience training and support to help protect them against cyber-attacks.
