Council stars shine during National Apprenticeship Week

This week is National Apprenticeship Week and Trafford Council is marking the occasion by celebrating its star recruits as they work towards a successful future!

The theme for this year is ‘Build the future’ and the campaign will encourage employers to celebrate the diversity of opportunity and value that apprenticeships bring, and how they can help individuals and employers ‘build their future’.

The council has recruited more than 300 apprentices in a variety of roles since April 2017 and, every day this week, it will be hosting a series of activities and events for its latest apprentices. Each day this week, we will focus on a different theme, set out in the national guidance.

•       Monday 07 February – The big launch! We will be sharing success stories of our EPIC and Upskill apprentices and how their journey has helped ‘build their future’!

•       Tuesday 08 February - #AskanEmployer and Progression Tuesday! The public will be able to ask us questions as an apprenticeship employer and internally we will be looking at our coaching offer and how it has supported progression.

•       Wednesday 09 February - #AskanApprentice Day! The public will be able to ask questions to a range of our apprentices regarding their apprenticeship journey… keep your eyes peeled for that!

•       Thursday 10 February – Thank you Thursday! Apprentices and managers will be sharing their thanks for apprenticeships and how much of an impact our apprentices have had on the organisation.

•       Friday 11 February – Celebration Friday! Celebrating all things apprenticeships, especially our recent social work degree apprenticeship graduates.

•       Saturday 12 February – Parents and Carers Day! We will be sharing a video of the parents of Charlotte Stoddard, one of our EPIC and Upskill Apprentices. The video will provide an insight on how her parents viewed her apprenticeships, and how it has helped build her future.

Apprenticeships are an alternative to university or college because people can work while they study. They combine work, training, and study, letting you 'earn while you learn'.

Cllr Tom Ross, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Finance and Governance, said:

“The Council wholeheartedly supports apprenticeships and we are delighted to have supported hundreds in the past few years. Apprenticeships are a major element of our talent development and are a great way to develop the skills and knowledge of our workforce while they continue to work for us.

“Apprentices certainly are our future — it is absolutely vital they are given opportunities to learn in the workplace. Here at Trafford we have taken on apprentices right across the board and we are proud of each and every one of them.”

Trafford Council is currently working with providers to deliver a wide range of apprenticeships including: adult social care, accountancy, business administration, children, young people and families.
