New training course launched for aspiring youth workers

A new youth worker training programme has been launched in Trafford to encourage more people to consider a career in youth work.

Trafford Council Youth Engagement Service and partners in the voluntary and community sector, working with Trafford College, have created a six-week introductory training programme for people wishing to take their first steps towards becoming youth workers in both paid and voluntary roles.

The course will help to develop skills and an understanding of what youth sector work involves, and participants completing the programme will achieve two nationally recognised qualifications and guaranteed interviews for paid and volunteer roles.

The programme will give learners an insight into youth work including roles and responsibilities, communication and group work skills and developing activities and adopting safe practices, and is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in helping young people with their personal, social and educational development.

The course will run from Monday 9 May to Friday 17 June daily from 9.30am - 3pm at Trafford College, Stretford Campus, Talbot Road, Stretford, M32 0XH (excluding the half term break from 30 May - 3 June).

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said:

“We’re really pleased to be launching this new training programme, which we hope will bring the world of youth work to life and show what fulfilling and worthwhile careers the profession can offer. Across Trafford and surrounding areas there are currently opportunities for full and part time youth workers, including sessional evening roles which can fit around other commitments, so those who successfully complete the course have a great opportunity to move quickly into employment in this field.”

“The programme is full of variety with interactive workshops, guest speakers from a diverse range of organisations and in-person visits to some local projects and we’d like to thank all the partners that have contributed and helped to pull it together.”

“Working with young people is always interesting and frequently rewarding with never a dull moment, and offers real opportunities to make a positive difference for young people in our communities. If this sounds like a path you’d like to take, please do get in touch to find out more.”
