Residents are invited to have their say on future plan for Longford Park

Residents have been invited to gather at Longford Park this Saturday to have their say on huge plans for the future of the much-loved green space.

Trafford Council has been working on plans for a major regeneration of the historic Stretford Park, a conservation area and the former home of John and Enriqueta Rylands, made possible via development grant funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Now local residents are being asked to come to the park on Saturday May 28th (10am-4pm) to give their views on the latest plans as part of the ‘Longford Park: People, Place and Nature’ project and multi-million pound funding bid. To support the bid, a draft masterplan has been prepared in partnership with the Friends of Longford Park, local stakeholders, environmental charity City of Trees and lead project consultants The Environment Partnership (TEP).

Key themes for the project are heritage, nature and wellbeing, with proposals including the refurbishment of and new uses for park buildings; re-imagining of the former Longford Hall site; restoration of the park landscape and gardens; reintroduction of Longford Brook through the park at surface level and revamped play and sports facilities. There are also plans for sustained volunteering, training and learning opportunities alongside the physical improvements.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said:

“This is an exciting milestone for the project. We know that parks play an important role in keeping people healthy and active and provide a space for nature in our urban environment.

Longford Park has been a popular destination for generations, this support from the National Lottery gives us an important opportunity and we want to hear a wide range of views on future plans for this much loved space.”
