Community Mile initiative comes to Trafford!

Cover a mile – your way!

With support from Trafford Council, Bluesci Support is collaborating with The Mason Foundation to deliver three brand new Community Miles in Old Trafford, Broomwood and Partington.

The Community Mile is locally based initiative where everyone can come together to do #TheirMileTheirWay, regardless of ability or disability; helping people to become happier, healthier, and more active.

These exciting new Miles will be our first venture in the Greater Manchester area, and we are looking forward to training up some wonderful new volunteer Champions, who will be pivotal in delivering this initiative in their local communities!

Our delivery partner, Bluesci Support, was founded in 2004, with a core belief that good mental health and wellbeing is integral for people’s levels of happiness and life satisfaction. They focus on the fact that everyday things can boost our overall wellbeing, and they provide guidance and self-management for individuals to achieve their aspirations; these include access to opportunities such as music, art, and volunteering.

Trafford Council has always invested in the local community, and an initiative such as The Community Mile has a clear synergy with their aim for long term, sustainable change for the local people. The launch of these new Miles will promote inclusivity and improved quality of life through the utilisation of existing assets within the community. The Mason Foundation’s mission echoes that of these two organisations, which uses activity to promote good mental and physical health for long-term success.

Cllr Jo Harding, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Leisure and Culture, said:

“Trafford Council is totally committed to helping residents become more physically active through our Trafford Moving initiative. I am over the moon that people will be able to take part in this exciting initiative to cover a mile in their way. Thank you to Bluesci Support and the Mason Foundation for all their support in launching this fantastic campaign in Trafford.”

Mason Foundation CEO Anna Skeats said:

“We are delighted to be teaming up with Trafford Council and local partner, Bluesci Support, through the launch of our Community Mile Programme. With our focus on supporting Trafford communities to become more active, in a way that works for them, we are looking forward to getting things well underway. This is our first and flagship Community Mile across Greater Manchester, following the success of the initiative rollout across the South-East, London, and Birmingham.

“With an estimated one in five adults across Trafford currently physically inactive, what better place to start! Our teams are incredibly excited about meeting the people of Trafford, supporting them to be our next team of fantastic Champions, delivering #TheirMileTheirWay - For Trafford, In Trafford, By Trafford! We look forward to working together with these two organisations to help tackle inequality when accessing health-based activities.

“We are united in our passion and drive to make impactful change within the most vulnerable communities, in a long-term, sustainable way. Watch this space for updates on our new Community Miles coming to Trafford in Summer 2022! “
