What would you like your neighbourhood to look like in the future?

Trafford Council is launching a series of consultations with residents about the creation of guidance which will shape how new buildings and developments in the borough are designed.

We are asking residents their views on the Trafford Design Guide which will ultimately be adopted by the Council as planning policy to improve the quality of new development in the borough.

We also want to know your views when drawing up the vision for a future Design Code, which sets out more specific standards of design features such as street character, building type and layout. This guidance will lead to more attractive, green and accessible places.

This is an opportunity for communities to have their say in the development of homes and their neighbourhoods. The face-to-face consultations will take place at the following locations:

2nd July

Last month, Trafford, along with the other 24 successful Councils, was given £160,000 by the Office for Place in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to produce model design codes that other councils around the country can draw on to inform their own local codes. The 25 areas will produce design codes that will shape better development and help generate pride in the places where people live.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:

“The design of our homes, streets and town centres has a big impact on people’s lives. This consultation is about giving local people a say on what their neighbourhoods will look like in the future and I am delighted that Trafford was one of the 25 areas to receive the funding.

The Design Code programme will make a huge difference to Trafford and will quite rightly put people at the centre of the design process. You don’t need to be an expert in design or planning to take part and I would urge as many residents as possible to visit a consultation session or view proposals online.”
