A planning application has been submitted this week for a new housing development in Old Trafford.
The proposals being considered are from Homes for Trafford, a joint venture formed between Trafford Council and Trafford Housing Trust, part of L&Q, which show innovative plans to regenerate land off Bold Street and represent a £28 million investment into the local area.
The plans include 161 energy-efficient contemporary properties with a mix of homes including 1 and 2-bedroom apartments, and 2, 3 and 4-bedroom houses, in a range of styles, sizes and tenure. The scheme will include 30% affordable homes comprising 48 properties – 16 social rent and 32 shared ownership.
The site was formerly home to three high-rise tower blocks and the Seahawk Pub. If approved, Trafford Council and Trafford Housing Trust’s plans, which have been developed to align with the principles of the Council’s Old Trafford Masterplan, will help create a landscape-led residential development, which prioritises health and wellbeing, access to nature and sustainable travel. There are also proposals for a café or commercial space for a local business or community group.

“If the application is successful the Homes for Trafford plans will regenerate a vacant brownfield site using carefully selected materials to create energy efficient homes, supporting and creating new jobs locally during construction and throughout the supply chain.
“By submitting a planning application residents and local businesses can have their say on the development, which we are confident will be welcomed in and around Old Trafford. Recent public consultations show neighbours and residents are overwhelmingly in favour of our proposals.”
Councillor Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “This is a fabulous scheme between Trafford Council and Trafford Housing Trust and a demonstration of our total commitment to deliver affordable, quality and sustainable homes to help address the huge housing shortage we face across Trafford. This scheme, if approved, will provide 161 much needed homes as well as a new community and green space in the Old Trafford area.”
If approved, Homes for Trafford is aiming to start on site in early 2023, with a target date for the first occupation of the first home in early 2024.
