Councillor urges shoppers to donate presents to struggling families

A leading Trafford Councillor is urging residents to donate presents to struggling families this Christmas.

Cllr Jo Harding has teamed up with the Trafford Centre to support its 10 Weeks to Christmas scheme which asks shoppers to donate gifts and essential items to help ease the cost of living and energy crisis on residents.

Cllr Harding, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Strategic Partnerships, visited the centre herself to find out how the scheme – a partnership between the Trafford Centre, Trafford Council and Trafford Community Hubs - is making a huge difference.

Residents are asked to donate everything from winter warmers, Christmas presents, decorations and everyday essentials at the donation point next to the Customer Services desk on  the ground floor of the main dome within the centre. Volunteers from the Trafford Hubs will collect all the toys and everyday essentials and distribute them to families who need the most help this Christmas.

Cllr Harding said: “The ongoing cost of living crisis is a total nightmare and is plunging more and more families and individuals into poverty. The Council and its partners are working hard to help those who are struggling most in our borough- but we need your support. Could I please ask that people donate to this fantastic cause which intends to put a smile on the faces of those with the least to spend this Christmas.

“This is a fantastic scheme and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved – you make us all proud. Thank you.”

A spokesperson for The Trafford Centre said: "Trafford Centre are proud to partner with Trafford Council and Trafford Community Hubs, introducing an important festive donation scheme to the centre this Christmas. With a core aim to help create a positive difference, to those who may need financial support, some gifting love or help in making their house feel like a home this winter with everything from winter warmers, Christmas presents, decorations and everyday essentials; Trafford Centre kindly asks visitors to join in with this initiative and offer support.”

The centre can only accept new goods and nothing second hand and the last day they are accepting donations is Sunday 18th December.
