Council delivering on housing promise

Trafford Council is delivering on its long-term commitment to build more new and affordable homes across the borough.

The authority is on target to provide around 1,300 new homes and 300 affordable homes in Trafford in 2022/2023.

The figures were shared with councillors in the authority’s latest Corporate Plan Performance and Budget Monitoring report. Some of the larger developments include the building of 246 flats and 28 houses on land next to Bridgewater Way and Chester Road in Old Trafford.

Affordable developments include 75 units at Sale West, 31 apartments at Higher Road, Urmston, 15 apartments at Chapel House, and 14 at New Street, Altrincham.

The Council has made supporting people out of poverty a major corporate priority and is also committed to working with partners to provide good quality affordable, social and sustainable housing.

Council Leader, Cllr Tom Ross, said he was delighted with the latest figures. Cllr Ross added: “Every borough in the country, including Trafford, is short of housing and we have made a long-term commitment to tackle this hugely important issue. Our priority to take people out of poverty will only succeed if we build more social and affordable housing – and that is exactly what we are doing. Thank you to everyone who is working so hard to help us deliver on our housing promise.”
