More public realm works in Altrincham

Trafford Council’s latest phase of public realm work in Altrincham will now benefit from further improvement works to George Street, Market Street and Regent Road.

The work involves providing new paving, planters and trees to the top of George Street, repairing pavements and adding new cycle stands and seating. There will also be steam cleaning to provide a fresh look and feel to the area.

On Market Street, the Council is extending the improvement works to include a new footpath from Shaws Road to High Street and a new parking project to allow four new disabled bays and a new crossing point. The works also include replacement surfacing between High Street and Regent Road.

The improvement works on Regent Road include new tree planting and the addition of a rain garden outside the health and wellbeing centre with extra signage to make it harder for motorists to drive the wrong way down Regent Road.  The works also extend the protected cycle lane and provide extra crossing points.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “The large scale public realm improvement works will continue the transformation of Altrincham to make the town an even better destination in which to live, work and shop and we are delighted they are progressing well. The latest improvements are above and beyond the work we have already carried out and will hugely improve the area. We are trying to minimise disruption as much as possible to create more active travel facilities in key areas of the town.”

All the public realm improvements in Altrincham are expected to be completed in June 2023.
