Mayors Challenge Fund

The Mayor’s Cycling and Walking Challenge Fund (MCF) aims to kick start the delivery of the Greater Manchester Cycling and Walking Commissioner’s Made to Move strategy to make walking and cycling the natural choices for shorter journeys.

Tranche 1 - Talbot Road/White City Way

Trafford Council has been awarded circa. £500k funding from MCF to upgrade cycling and pedestrian facilities at the Talbot Road Junction with White City Way. A Cycle Optimised Protected Signals (CYCLOPS) style junction is being considered to provide safer crossing points across all arms of the junction for pedestrians and cyclists and prioritise the movement of people over vehicles. Read more about the Tranche 1 project.

Tranche 2 - A56/Talbot Road and Great Stone Road/Talbot Road

Trafford Council has been awarded circa. £1.1 million funding from MCF to upgrade pedestrian facilities at the A56 Chester Road junction with Talbot Road and the Talbot Road junction with Great Stone Road. The traffic signals are being considered for an upgrade, to provide safer crossing points and prioritise the movement of people over vehicles. Read more about the Tranche 2 project.

Tranche 4 – Wharfside Way – Moss Road Consultation

We are proposing to improve cycling and walking facilities between Wharfside Way to Moss Road. The scheme aims to encourage residents and visitors of key attractions such as Trafford Park, Media City and Old Trafford Stadia to adopt sustainable modes of travel, whilst enhancing connectivity to the wider cycle route network, including National Cycle Route 55 and Route 82.
