Trafford Council undertakes an annual capital programme to maintain road surfaces throughout the borough.
Works include maintenance or preventative treatments to the roads, footpaths, or cycleways. In some cases, both the road and footpath may need resurfacing, whilst other cases may only require minor repairs to prevent further deterioration.
Schemes are identified for the annual programme based on a priority ranking system. Ranking is in accordance with the Highways Infrastructure Asset Management Plan (HIAMP) for the efficient management of the road network. The priorities are obtained from nationally agreed surveys using “SCANNER” technology, on-site inspections and the expertise of highways inspectors. Engineers consult elected members annually for feedback on any roads in their wards which they believe requires attention. This feedback together with requests directly from the public is also considered in the prioritisation process.
Immediately prior to works being carried out, individual letters are sent out to all householders and businesses directly affected by the works, identifying the full extent and actual start date of the works.
