Opinions sought over community pharmacies in Trafford

Residents are being asked for their view on how to help make sure pharmacies best serve their communities.

Trafford Council has launched a consultation to help find out what people think of their local community pharmacy. They want to find out whether residents would like to see any changes made, how accessible the pharmacies are and whether they offer the right amount of information to people. The survey also asks about what services people use from their pharmacy and what opening times best suit them.

Cllr Jane Slater, Executive Member for Health, Wellbeing and Equalities, said:

“Community pharmacies can play a really important role in people’s health. Your local pharmacist can provide advice and over-the-counter medicines for a range of minor illnesses, such as coughs, sore throats, tummy troubles and more. They are also well trained so they can make sure you get the help you need if your complaint is more serious.

It’s therefore important that the provision of pharmacies is right in our borough. We want to make sure everyone can get access to a community pharmacy at the right time and get the right advice and support.”

The views from the survey will help the Council formulate its Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment. This document will detail if Trafford’s pharmacy provision meets current needs or if there are gaps that need addressing.

Cllr Slater added:

“It’s a priority to address health inequalities and making sure the provision is there throughout our borough is a major part of that. We want all residents to have access to the right support, no matter what their ailment. This not only can stop minor ailments becoming major illnesses but also provides peace of mind to everyone.”
