Skip permit
If you want to place a skip on the adopted highway, including the carriageway, footway or public footpath, you should contact a skip hire company who will apply for a permit on your behalf. It is an offence under the Highways Act (1980) for skips to not have a permit. Any skips placed prior to obtaining a permit will be subject to enforcement action.
How to apply
You can complete an application form to apply for a skip permit.
A fee of £45 for each skip permit application will be required. A licence can be valid for any period between 1 day and 28 days. For longer periods, additional applications should be made.
Conditions
Any skip placed on the highway must:
- Be properly lighted during the hours of darkness (that is warning lights set up from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise)
- Be clearly marked with the owner’s name, telephone number and address
- Be removed as soon as practicable after it has been filled
Applications for skips on major or traffic sensitive roads will not be considered.
