Child employment and entertainment

Across Trafford there are many opportunities available for children to take part in performances, modelling contracts and paid television work. There are also opportunities for young people to work on a part-time basis in a variety of different businesses. Laws governing child employment are in place to ensure that children are safe.

Allow at least a minimum of 10 working days from us receiving all necessary information required to allow us to process your application.

Child Performance Licence

If any child, including those of compulsory school age, is involved in performances, they must be licensed by the local authority and properly chaperoned.

Child Employment Licence

Children must be 13 years old before they can work part-time. The person employing the child is required to apply for a work permit within 7 days of employing the child. If they do not they can be fined up to £1,000.

Body of Persons application form

A BoP approval means an organisation doesn’t need to obtain individual licences for the children who are participating in a performance.

Chaperone Licence

Children who take part in public performances or entertainment under a local authority licence must be supervised by an approved chaperone - unless they are in the care of their parent or an approved tutor.

Giving a reference for a chaperone licence

You may be asked to provide a reference on behalf of an applicant for a chaperone licence.
