Approved premises

Under the Marriage Act 1994, marriage and civil partnership ceremonies may be solemnized in venues that have been approved by us.

A marriage or civil partnership can take place in any approved premise in England or Wales. A Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar must be present at the marriage. Fees are payable in advance for their attendance. In order to ensure that they will be available to attend at your chosen date and time, you should contact us before you make a booking with the venue.

You are more than welcome to enhance your ceremony with readings, personal declarations, music, poetry and rings, however no religious content can be included in a civil marriage or civil partnership. How to get a premise approved for marriage or civil partnership
