Council is doing more for Trafford, annual report reveals

More affordable homes, more investment in leisure centres and more charging points for electric vehicles.

That’s some of the achievements revealed in Trafford Council’s annual report for 2022-23.

The report, which will be discussed at the Council’s Executive on 24 July, looks at how the Council is doing against its three priorities of reducing heath inequalities, preventing poverty and tackling climate change. Key achievements from April 2022 to March 2023 include the building of nearly 1,000 new homes – 245 of them affordable homes, 89% of elderly people still at home three months after discharge from hospital and 81 new bays with chargers for electric vehicles.

Other achievements include 347 people prevented from becoming homeless, 58% of household waste collected for recycling, 92% of schools providing good or outstanding education to children and the beginning of a multi-million pound redevelopment of leisure centres.

Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, said:

“This is my first report since I became leader and I am delighted with the progress we are making. I’m particularly pleased at how we are giving children the best start in life by supporting them and their parents. That plays such a key part in our overall priorities so our children can go on to achieve and be the best that they can.”

The annual report looks at each priority, noting achievements in each area, as well as identifying how the borough can be further improved.

Cllr Ross said:

"We are a few months into the next year and we’ve already making important strides. We are now a Real Living Wage employer and working towards making sure our contractors also pay their staff the Real Living Wage.

“We’ve also installed more charging points, protected more green spaces for residents and communities to enjoy and are investing in our town centres, highways and walking routes across Trafford.

“We will keep working hard to achieve our vision of a borough where all residents, communities and businesses prosper.”
