Trafford is top choice for TV drama location

The beautiful borough of Trafford is famous for many things including top-flight football and cricket – but it’s also making a name for itself in the world of TV production.

A number of hit dramas have and are being shot in Trafford including Fool Me Once, After the Flood, Coronation Street, The One Show, Brassic, Sherwood, Waterloo Road, Real Housewives of Cheshire, The Bay, Ridley, and The Jetty.

The popular shows, which attract millions of viewers via their platforms on the BBC, ITV and Netflix and other channels, were filmed across various locations in the borough. Fool Me Once, the recent Netflix hit starring Michelle Keegan, Richard Armitage, Joanna Lumley and Adeel Akhtar included footage shot in Trafford Park and the Bowden area.

The Bay, starring Marsha Thomason, Daniel Ryan and Andrew Dowbiggin included scenes filmed in Trafford Town Hall and sections of After the Flood were shot in Stretford and Trafford Park.

Soaps and dramas more close to home, including Coronation Street, are regularly shot in Trafford. The most recent saw scenes from the Winter family holiday in the motorhome shot in Ashton Upon Mersey.

Cllr Cath Hynes, Deputy Leader of the Council and Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Culture and Heritage, says she is proud that Trafford is being chosen as a key location for dramas.

Cllr Hynes said: “Trafford is a fantastic location and it is no surprise it is the natural choice for many productions with its numerous parks and attractions, and its famous landmarks such as Manchester United, Lancashire County Cricket Club, Dunham Massey, The Trafford Centre and Trafford Town Hall.

“We are extremely proud of the fact that our borough is being shown to millions via TV production and I am very excited by the fact that so many stars have appeared on camera in our borough. But with what we have to offer, I fully expect this to continue into the future. Thank you for choosing Trafford.”

Trafford Council plays a key role in securing permission for the production teams to shoot their footage in the borough. We work closely with staff from the various teams and they are required to gain permission from us to film in the borough. In many cases, streets and parks have to be closed off for scenes to be shot and that means the Council has to get involved in the process.

The Council has a good understanding of the needs of filming and production teams, works closely with Filming in England and are proud members of their Filming in England Partnership. To make an enquiry about filming in Trafford, contact filmingenquiries@trafford.gov.uk
