Trafford Council nurtures green skills at its first specialist jobs fair

Exciting career and training opportunities in the ever growing ‘green sector’ will be showcased at Trafford Council’s first Green Skills Jobs Fair.

The fair, which is being held at Stretford Public Hall on Thursday 22 February, is a fantastic opportunity to meet employers and trainers offering work or training opportunities in the borough that focus on reducing the impact of human activity on the environment.

This includes careers that support our Net Zero carbon emission target or other environmental goals, such as nature restoration and combating the climate crisis.

On the day, attendees can:

  • Find out more about the state-of-the-art green training facilities in Trafford, such as the Green Skills Academy at Trafford Park and Trafford College’s Green Technology Hub
  • Get advice and information on careers
  • Meet some of Trafford’s green employers with immediate start vacancies, including Aira, who will be sharing details of their job opportunities
  • Sign up for a short green skills bootcamp – ranging from the fundamentals of renewing energy, becoming a Green Doctor, to construction, multi-trade and more
  • Learn about working with electric vehicle charging equipment, retrofit skills, solar panels and smart home programming

Councillor Liz Patel, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:

“This is a brilliant opportunity for anyone who is looking to give their career in the green sector a real kickstart.

“The drive to reduce carbon emissions has created a wide variety of new and exciting jobs, with more than 900 green employers in Greater Manchester. Trafford is home to a significant percentage of these, and with an average salary of £40,000, there has never been a better time to get a well-paid local job in this sector.

“Stimulating green growth is an important factor in the Council’s approach to tackling the climate crisis, so I’m delighted to see our first Green Skills Job Fair get under way. “

Local employer, Aira, a heat pump and end to end service provider, is among those who will be recruiting for immediate positions at the fair.

Marc Clarke, Aira Head of Region North West, said:

"There is such a wealth of talent here in the North West and we're really excited to be hiring a variety of heat pump roles in the area, such as surveyors, designers and installers. At Aira, we are on a mission to accelerate the decarbonisation and electrification of residential heating and plan to hire 8,000 clean energy roles in the UK over the next decade. This is a really exciting time to join the Aira community, as we are expanding across the UK and opening dedicated Aira Academies throughout the country to deliver exceptional training to the renewable workforce of the future. If you're ready to join the clean energy revolution, come and find us at the Trafford Green Skills Job Fair to find out more our vacancies."

The Green Skills Jobs Fair takes place on Thursday 22 February at Stretford Public Hall between 10am - 12pm. To attend the event, just email employment@trafford.gov.uk.
