Council and Amey continuing to make a difference

Trafford Council’s partnership with Amey is proving to be a success in a number of ways – including making a difference within our communities.

Figures revealed this week from the last 12 month of the One Trafford Partnership show how we’ve improved 283,210 square metres of roads through our Highway Capital Programme, electrified our fleet, helped decarbonise the borough and won green flags for our parks.

Despite the Partnership’s many infrastructure successes, we are also delivering on our social impact commitments and community engagement commitments.

Successes include:

  • Volunteer hours: Since 2021, Amey staff in Trafford have volunteered a total of 1,004 hours through Amey’s Social Impact Day (SIDs) initiative. Every Amey employee has two SIDs to use per year.
  • Amey is a Disability Confident Leader: Awarded a DCL certificate in 2023, the business is taking steps to ensure people of all abilities are embraced within the business. This year, the OTP employed a supported Intern through Trafford Council on the FM team. Jamie is now a permanent employee. Further Supported Internships are being explored at OTP in 2024.
  • School engagement: The OTP have engaged with 10 schools on various activities over 2023; including active travel, recycling initiatives, employment and future skills.
  • CRUK partnership with Amey – across the business nearly £300k has been raised for Cancer Research UK since the partnership began with the charity in 2021. The partnership was renewed in 2022 for another two years. Colleagues have been donating and fundraising through activities like bake offs, Race for Life and salary penny donations.
  • Essential toiletries: Donations to Trafford Domestic Abuse Service ensure essential supplies for those in need.

Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Highways, Environmental and Traded Services, said: “Our partnership with Amey is delivering in a number of areas including highways, the environment and our parks. I am delighted that we are also having a impact within our communities through our social impact commitments.”
