Council-arranged support

If you choose council-arranged support (a commissioned service), we will organise and pay approved providers on your behalf.

Council-arranged support may suit you if you:

  • Prefer the council to arrange your care and manage your budget
  • Do not want the responsibility of hiring or managing personal assistants
  • Need regulated care services, such as home care or residential care
  • Do not have someone who could act as a suitable person to manage a Direct Payment
  • Want a mixture of support options (for example, some arranged by us and some arranged by you)

Eligibility

You will be eligible for council-arranged support if:

  • You have care and support needs due to a disability, illness or mental health condition
  • Because of your needs, you are unable to achieve two or more of the defined outcomes (for example: personal hygiene, using your home safely)
  • The impact on your wellbeing is significant

These criteria reflect national regulations and are applied fairly across Trafford.

To receive council-arranged support, you must:

  • Live in Trafford
  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Have a Care Act assessment showing you have ongoing care and support needs that meet the Care Act eligibility criteria

If you are not eligible

If you are not eligible for council-arranged support, we will still:

  • Provide advice and guidance
  • Help connect you to local community support and voluntary services
  • Explain your self-funding options (if relevant)

How it works

Choice and control

We will talk with you about your needs and preferences and match you to suitable, approved providers. You can also choose a mixed option or Direct Payments if you want more flexibility.

Quality and safety

We only commission providers who meet required standards. We check performance, complaints, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) information.

Costs and contracts

We agree on prices and terms with providers. If a provider charges above our usual rates, a top-up may be needed and must be agreed first.

Less admin

We handle contracts and invoices with the provider. You focus on your support.

Find out more

We recommend talking to your social worker about whether council-arranged support would work for you. If you want more control of your care, consider direct payments.
