How much you need to pay for care

Most people have to pay something towards their care and support.

To work out how much this should be, we do a financial assessment of your circumstances. See Care and Support Charging and Financial Assessment Framework.

These assessments aim to make sure you only pay what you can reasonably afford.

Eligibility for financial support

Whether you need to pay for your care depends on your financial circumstances.

If you have savings and assets below £23,250, you will usually be eligible for support to help pay for your care. If you have over £23,250, you will normally pay the full cost of your care.

You can find out how much of a contribution you may need to pay using our online calculator.

The tool is free, completely confidential and uses the same steps that we use for our financial assessments.

Paying for care without a financial assessment

If you choose not to have a financial assessment, we will ask you to pay the full cost of the services you have.

You can still ask for a financial assessment at a later date if you change your mind or if your circumstances change.

Debt recovery

Trafford Council must demonstrate to residents, elected members, and taxpayers that it collects all due income effectively and efficiently from every source.

Effective financial management is essential for funding the Council's quality services.

The best approach is debt prevention, supported by the Care and Support Charging and Financial Assessment Framework, which covers both prevention and recovery.
