Report a concern about someone in a position of trust

If you believe your concern is an emergency, or if someone is in immediate danger, phone 999.

If you have concerns about the behaviour of someone in a position of trust (PiPOT) working in Trafford, you should report it immediately.

A position of trust refers to anyone who has responsibility for or influence over the wellbeing of adults, particularly those who may be vulnerable.

This includes:

  • Social care workers
  • Personal assistants
  • Healthcare professionals
  • Volunteers and support workers
  • Managers or supervisors in care settings

Report a concern

For immediate concerns about the adult at risk, email adultsafeguardinghub@trafford.gov.uk

To report a concern about a professional in a position of trust complete the PiPOT notification form. Email completed forms to PiPoT@trafford.gov.uk.

Download PIPOT notification form

You can also contact the team for guidance and advice.

The person in a position of trust should be informed that the allegation against them is being shared with the PIPOT Lead.

Where possible, consent should be gained to share their details. Unless by sharing this information it puts the adult at risk or a child in danger.

The grounds for not telling the person include:

  • putting an adult at risk or a child in danger
  • there is a risk the person will self-harm
  • there is a risk to the professional who was telling the person they are making a disclosure

If the person does not consent to the sharing of their information, a notification can still be considered. Where it is believed there is:

  • a safeguarding concern for an adult with care and support needs
  • the sharing of the information is in the public's interest

What happens next

After you report a concern, you will receive confirmation that it has been received and be advised of the next steps.
